Do Well by Doing Good: Help CYBEX Support Breast Cancer Research
It’s not too late to join the CYBEX Pink Ribbon Run. During the month of October, CYBEX will donate 10¢/mile on the pink treadmill or 20¢/mile on the pink Arc Trainer to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).
For facility owners or managers, purchasing a CYBEX pink treadmill or pink Arc Trainer gives your members/users/employees or students a chance to make their workout count for something besides getting fit or losing weight. For all the exercisers out there, make Breast Cancer Awareness month [October] the month you work out on something pink. It’s a chance to earn money to support breast cancer research.
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women (first is lung cancer). Because women are 54% of club members, this campaign really hits home to the thousands of women across the country who work out in health clubs or YMCAs or JCCs. It appeals to men too – they have wives, sisters, mothers and daughters. Very few families do not have someone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. In addition to raising money for research to find a cure in our lifetime – the Pink Ribbon Run helps create awareness that exercise reduces the risk of breast cancer. Everyone knows the positive effects of exercise on heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension. Not as well known is that research shows vigorous exercise reduces breast cancer risk for women even later in life – a message that health clubs and YMCAs/JCCs want to get out to the increasing number of seniors who are considering an exercise program. The Pink Ribbon Run is a great way to do that.
Supporting breast cancer research is the “Doing good” part of “Do well by doing good”. For the “Do well” part, the CYBEX Pink Ribbon Run is a great way for clubs to create loyalty among existing members – and it helps create publicity that can attract new members. Over 92% of facilities who participated last year reported that they were pleased with the results. They liked the increased community awareness of their facility and the enthusiasm the campaign generated among their members. Pam Trader from World’s Gym in Delaware commented “The Pink Ribbon Run was so much more than a promotion. It was a chance for our members to come together for a cause. Some with a personal relation to a breast cancer survivor; some who lost loved ones; some are survivors themselves. In these tough economic times, this promotion allowed everyone to be a contributor, regardless of their financial abilities. We are pleased to have had this affiliation with CYBEX”.
In fact, facilities that participated last year can double dip this October! For every pink treadmill or pink Arc purchased this year, CYBEX will make the same contribution for a pink treadmill purchased last year. We believe this cause marketing campaign is a win for everyone involved – and – we are putting our money where our mouth is.
