That’s A Latte Calories—Expanded Edition!

Back in October, I discussed the perils of seemingly innocuous morning beverages from your local coffeehouse.  Some gourmet coffee beverages contain 450 to 700 calories, with 50 to 100 grams of carbohydrates (empty, sugar laden calories) and up to 30 grams of fat. Add a bagel or other baked good to that frou frou latte and you have essentially trashed a productive Arc Trainer or other good cardio workout.

Now, Starbucks has decided to expand its offerings—and our waistlines!—with a BIGGER beverage option. Just how big is Starbucks' new Trenta size? The Trenta, available only for iced drinks, will be in every U.S. Starbucks by May 3. The 31oz addition to the Starbucks lineup is 325mL larger than Starbucks' previous largest size, the Venti. At 916 mL, the Trenta is actually larger than the average capacity of the adult human stomach (900mL). From the National Post:

Now, I love a good strength training or Arc Trainer workout as much as the next weekend warrior, but I certainly don’t want to spend three hours burning off breakfast!  Just some food for thought the next time you “reward” yourself for a great workout!
