Last month saw Luke Berry, CYBEX UK sales manager for London and the South East take part in the final of the British Military Fitness ‘Beat the Instructor’ competition – and win!
Having already beaten hundreds of hopefuls nationwide to qualify in the top 20 applicants, Luke was invited down to the training ground at Premiership rugby side London Wasps to compete in the final.
Luke had to then take part in three rounds of challenging work outs, which involved various circuit training exercises including press ups, pull ups using Beaverfit rigs, sprint runs, as well as a number of exercises using a range of functional training equipment.
With hardly any time to rest in between each round, Luke went on to win the overall competition by beating his closest competitor by 300m in the final run.
As well as being named the ‘Beat the Instructor’ national champion for 2011, Luke won an all-inclusive fitness holiday for two to Fuerteventura, staying at a four star SunFit resort offering top sports facilities, programmes and classes. Luke also won a full range of Maximuscle products who were one of the sponsors of the competition.
Following his competition win, Luke said “This was definitely one of the toughest fitness challenges I have taken part in. In the final round we had to repeat each part of the circuit four times so I was really pleased to win by a significant distance in the final run. Despite how tough it was at some points, I really enjoyed all of the workouts and thought that they were well suited to everyone’s ability and yet still tough enough to challenge our fitness.”
The competition was run in partnership with Men’s Fitness magazine and British Military Fitness, the largest provider of outdoor fitness classes in the UK.
An interview with Luke will be featured in the December issue of Men’s Fitness, which will be available to buy from October 19th.
