Non-impact cardio workouts are not created equal

The benefits that members of your fitness facility derive from their workouts can vary widely depending on their choice of machine. With that in mind, wouldn’t it make sense for you to know how machine is going to provide the most benefit to your members and keep them coming back, strengthening your business in the process? We put the Arc Trainer through the ultimate fitness test to see how it stacks up to the demands of a fitness facility.

The Cardio Exam

Not all cardio workouts are created the same. A top research team at the University of Wisconsin - Lacrosse, one of the world's most respected centers of fitness research, recently investigated which type of non-impact cardio trainer provides the most effective cardio workout. The researchers asked individuals to work out at the same rate of perceived effort on a Cybex Arc Trainer, a Precor Adaptive Motion Trainer and a Precor Elliptical Trainer.

Perceived Exertion vs. Calories Burned

16% more calories burned

Although test subjects thought they were working out just as hard on all three machines, the study showed that they burned 16% more calories on the Cybex Arc Trainer than the other cross trainers. That output equates to burning an extra 26,000 calories a year.

Or, to put it in terms you can easily relay to your members, switching to an Arc Trainer could help them burn off an extra 7 pounds of fat per year.
