Competitors at Europe’s first and biggest female-only fitness and beauty pageant will use Cybex strength equipment and the new SPARC in Fitness Champion category
Cybex UK has been appointed as an official partner to Miss Galaxy Universe, Europe’s first and biggest female-only fitness and beauty pageant.
Cybex will provide a range of fitness equipment, including the new SPARC, to the ‘Fitness Champion’ category, which sees competitors battle it out across a range of disciplines designed to test athletic ability; for 2016 the category will not only form part of the British Championships in May, but also the inaugural European Championships (July) and World Championships (October), all taking place in the UK.
New to the UK market, the SPARC is a self-powered high intensity training machine modelled on Cybex’s patented Arc pattern of motion, which allows the hips and knee to move synchronously to reduce pressure on joints and provide a more comfortable workout; this was one of the reasons why event founder, industry professional and former fitness model Sarah Donohue was so excited to incorporate the SPARC into this year’s competitions: “The event encourages entrants of all ages and we try to be as inclusive as possible with the disciplines we choose, whilst ensuring our competitors can push themselves to their maximum and reach optimum performance – the SPARC facilitates exactly that, providing exceptional results with low impact on joints.”
Rob Thurston, Cybex UK commercial director, added: “SPARC’s intuitive ‘get on and go’ functionality and resisted cardio design is perfect for HIIT or circuit-style workouts; it’s biomechanically engineered to be gentler on joints, permitting competitors to work even harder by minimising their perceived level of exertion.”
Participants will also test their strength in other disciplines which include squats, bench press, chin ups and a speed car pull, as well as competing in a number of other categories which include Fitness Model, Physique Model, Beach Body, Bikini Diva, Miss Monroe International and Yummy Mummy.
Miss Galaxy Universe was first launched in 2011 to address a gap in the UK market, as Sarah explains: “I’ve worked in the industry for over 20 years and spent a lot of time on the American fitness competitor circuit, but never understood why the UK market wasn’t developing at the same rate.
“By launching Miss Galaxy Universe, I wanted to create an arena where girls are given an opportunity to showcase their fit physique and athletic ability – we want to find the ‘modern woman’ who represents health, inner beauty, strength and individuality and the Fitness Champion category is a key part to achieving this.”
The event has experienced significant growth since its launch in 2011, with over 80 participants expected to take part in May’s British Championships; competitors will also be invited to a Training Camp at the Cybex UK HQ gym in Coalville, Leicestershire at the end of this month.
