One of the questions we receive most often from our community is about constant power on our Arc Trainer and exercise bikes. If you receive this question often, here is a great answer from the Cybex Research Institute that you can use.
WHAT IS CONSTANT POWER?
This mode is really what it sounds like:
There is a set level of power, and it varies depending on your speed. As you slow down (pedaling or striding slower), it ramps up the resistance. Inversely, as you increase speed the resistance will feel easier.
Paulette Kowalski from the Cybex Research Institute, who is training for her first half-marathon, says that she "uses constant power to train my strides per minute (SPM) for running because I am a terrible pacer. Constant power helps me learn how to keep pace, and ensures that I am producing the same wattage when I do slow down,". Her CRI counterpart Cory Hofmann said his top reason for using constant power is that it "tracks progress, forcing you to keep your speed high or you will be faced with a higher resistance".
