In today's world full of stress, we can all benefit from incorporating a regular exercise routine into our lives.
However, not everyone makes this kind of commitment.
Why do you think that is?
The excuses are endless:
- "I'm too tired.”
- "I don't like to be sore the next day."
- "I've got a case of the Mondays.”
- "I should probably wait until my schedule lightens up to start.”
- "I'm not in good enough shape to exercise."
The list goes on.
I'll be the first to admit that getting into shape is not the easiest thing in the world. If it were easy, everybody would be walking around 100% healthy with the perfect body. You would not be reading this article right now and there would be no such thing as a Personal Trainer because there would be no need. But just because fitness is a challenge does not mean you should neglect it. Fitness really should be your #1 priority. In fact, it is quite easier to STAY fit than it is to GET fit. Often people wait until it is a matter of life or death before they get motivated to take serious "ACTION" and get healthier.
Whether this sounds like you or somebody else, use the following three methods to enhance your life or to motivate those around you to optimal levels of fitness.
You have to have a SPECIFIC goal in mind as you make your action plan. Be sure that your goals are not only attainable, but measurable. The more specific your goals, the better your chances are to succeed. Be sure to plan how you will overcome potential barriers that may arise on your journey. Remember to keep the following adage in mind: "Failing to prepare is preparing to fail."
If I only had to recommend one characteristic as a key to success, "Visualization" would be it. This is a common practice for the most successful people in the world, whether it is used to achieve health and fitness, business, financial or family goals. Visualization is helpful on any journey, because you have to know your destination if you want to get there. Give yourself a timetable to reach your goals, then follow up with appropriate milestones, so that you know you are on the right track. So if you want to lose 75 pounds in the next year, imagine yourself 75 pounds lighter. Imagine how life would be at that weight, imagine how people would treat you, and imagine your overall quality of life. Then each month, be sure to set an attainable goal weight as a marker on your journey. Always be sure to celebrate your successes along the way (when you hit a milestone) by rewarding yourself with something that feels good (but doesn't interfere with your progress), such as a massage, a facial or some new golf clubs. Don’t use food as an incentive!
If you do not believe in yourself, then who will? Be confident on your journey to feel better and achieve the type of greatness that your body and mind deserves. Surround yourself with people who also believe in you because creating a supportive environment will help to ensure success. As you embark on your fitness journey, make sure to inform your spouse, family, friends, and co-workers of your plan, so that they can hold you accountable as well. Having support is a key element of your fitness quest. It becomes very difficult to get into the best shape of your life if you are surrounded by people with bad eating and exercise habits. If this is the case for you and you don't have the proper support, then reach out to people at your local gym or find exercise buddies. Create your own network of like-minded individuals trying to get into better shape so you have a team of supporters.
Remember, it is never too late to turn over a new leaf and make fitness a priority in your life, especially if you practice the methods listed above. A sign reading: "FOCUS, VISUALIZE, BELIEVE" is the first thing that you see when you walk into MZR Fitness and it is our strong belief that those characteristics are the key elements to success, not only in your pursuit of fitness but in life!
