Tournament took place at The O2 from 4-11 November as culmination to men’s professional tennis season

CYBEX International UK was again chosen by the ATP to equip the onsite gym at the recent Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in a partnership that started in 2009.

As the climax to the men’s professional tennis season, the tournament features only the world’s best eight qualified singles players and doubles pairings and this year saw Novak Djokovic crowned singles champion with David Marrero and Fernando Verdasco winning the doubles competition.

The tournament has been played at The O2 in London for the last five seasons, when CYBEX first provided equipment for players competing in the season finale.

“Having a gym onsite opens up a lot of opportunities,” confirms ATP World Tour medical director Clay Sniteman.

“Players can run their own functional warm up sessions, cool down after matches or even rehabilitate injuries they pick up during the tournament.”

The gym housed cardio equipment including the CYBEX 770T treadmill, 625A Arc Trainer and 750R recumbent bike, alongside Bravo Pull and Bravo Press, two pieces from CYBEX’s cable-based Bravo Functional Training system.

“Cable based training is perfect for tennis players as it accounts for the multi-directional motion required for the sport,” explains Sniteman.

“By using the CYBEX Bravo, players benefit hugely from the range of motion, angles and also stability work, being able to isolate parts of the body during their workouts and target the weaker areas from abdominals to core, back to shoulders and even lower body.”

Functional training equipment was also provided by Jordan Fitness, including dumbbells, kettlebells, medicine balls and plyometric boxes.

Rob Thurston, CYBEX UK commercial director, said: “The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals signals the end to a long season for its competitors and so physical conditioning and injury prevention and management are of utmost importance.

“Having a gym onsite for the tournament therefore ensures players can remain in peak physical condition for the duration and the ATP’s decision to work with CYBEX since 2009 proves not only the quality of our equipment but its ability to cope with the tough training demands of some of the world’s top athletes.”
